Halloween is getting closer...

Only a couple of weeks until Halloween. Here's a peak at our front yard decorations this year:

And a sneak peak at my costume in progress:

Burn, baby, burn

I took advantage of the tax free weekend to finally replace my broken CD-ROM drive. I upgraded to a Sony DVDR drive. The install was fairly painless, and everything seems to be working. I burned a quickie CD, and it sounds fine.

I also purchased a plug in to convert VHS to DVD. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get that installed, dust off the VHS deck and dig out my old home videos. I'm guessing that'll keep me out of trouble and up late for a while.

I got game

Thanks to the economic fellatio rebate, we've upgraded to an XBox 360. I just got back from Target with the Go Pro version (20GB external hard drive) and Lego Star Wars Saga. I'm on my way upstairs to hook this bad boy up.

Assimulation

Well, no matter how hard we tried, it didn't look like my Saturn was going to pass inspection. We received an unexpected donation to the Human Fund yesterday, so this afternoon KG and I went out and bought a new car:

We'll be picking it up on Tuesday. It's a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan. Yup, we're suburbanites now.

Debut post: Toy of the week

Now that I have plenty of megapixels at my disposal, I thought I'ld start a toy of the week post. What better to start with than the Guy Fawkes loving anarchist, V for Vendetta.

Artfully Chilling

Now that I have myself a rec room, I figured it was high time to acquire a mini fridge to keep my beer cold and handy. After several weeks of trolling craigslist I finally came across one I liked. 4.3 cubic feet of chilly storage, and it's a functioning piece of art!

Thank you, Andrea. I'll be making good use of this tonight.

179/1000 BLU Vol 2

So, I decided I might as well attempt to do an occasional review of music, movies or books that I ingest. Partly as filler and time killer, partly because I'm always looking to infect new people wth my esoteric taste.

My latest acquisition is The Residents "Best Left Unspoken Volume 2." This is the second of 3 collections of instrumental songs from B sides, out takes and limited releases long out of print.

The first 6 tracks are from "High Horses", an EP of demented carousel music. I'm lucky enough to have the original EP, so this wasn't new to me. None the less, it's great stuff. Best listened to with a decent pair of headphones.

The other stand outs, in my opinion, are "Prelude for a Toddler" and "Bijou." Prelude was included on a previous compliation album, which I also have ( and incidently was my first Residents album), but I'm happy to hear it again. Creepy. "Bijou" is new to me. It's a strange and intersting track, and thankfully defies description.

Anyhow, it's a limited release, and only available from Ralph America. If you have any interest in The Residents, I'd suggest picking it up.
