Smell My Picture

So, a few weeks ago I hooked up with a professional photographer to get some quality pictures of me in my home made Residents costume. Bill Hicks, the photog, does wedding photography and is looking to expand into costumed portraits. I got some awesome free shots, he got some stuff for his portfolio.

Great guy, and he did a fantastic job. You can check him out here. Here's a few samples:

My day off

I finished my eyeball mask:

And the stove has been installed. The building inspector has to sign off on it before we can use it, but it's in:

Eye'm almost done

The veins are hardening as I type. Tomorrow I'll paint them up and glue them on.

Eyeball Progress

I'm on the home stretch with the construction of my Residents costume. Here you can see the hard hat glued inside the globe:
Perfect fit!
Now to drill holes for bolts to hold the hat, paint it up, add a screen for the iris and some veins.

Halloween is getting closer...

Only a couple of weeks until Halloween. Here's a peak at our front yard decorations this year:

And a sneak peak at my costume in progress:

I had a fever dream

Just got in from The Bunny Boy show. All I can say is.... wow.

I was standing maybe 10 ft from the band the whole show. An incredible show. I'll post more about it later. For now, I'm still trying to process it all.

It has arrived

Got my copy of The Bunny Boy today. I have not had a chance to give it a good listen yet, but I am very much looking forward to my commute tomorrow morning.

I'm very interested in seeing how their planned internet series works out. For now, I'm just counting the days until October 12th.

w00t!

Sweet weeping eyeballs of joy

The Residents' bog announced an upcoming live performance in NYC this upcoming October. Color me excited.

"The Bunny Boy." New album? Don't know. However, Big Brother was nice enough to confirm that a tour is in the works, and Boston is being looked at, though no booking had been made as of yet.

Shit, I'll host a show in my back yard if need be. Seriously!

179/1000 BLU Vol 2

So, I decided I might as well attempt to do an occasional review of music, movies or books that I ingest. Partly as filler and time killer, partly because I'm always looking to infect new people wth my esoteric taste.

My latest acquisition is The Residents "Best Left Unspoken Volume 2." This is the second of 3 collections of instrumental songs from B sides, out takes and limited releases long out of print.

The first 6 tracks are from "High Horses", an EP of demented carousel music. I'm lucky enough to have the original EP, so this wasn't new to me. None the less, it's great stuff. Best listened to with a decent pair of headphones.

The other stand outs, in my opinion, are "Prelude for a Toddler" and "Bijou." Prelude was included on a previous compliation album, which I also have ( and incidently was my first Residents album), but I'm happy to hear it again. Creepy. "Bijou" is new to me. It's a strange and intersting track, and thankfully defies description.

Anyhow, it's a limited release, and only available from Ralph America. If you have any interest in The Residents, I'd suggest picking it up.

It's a shame

From the newest album by The Residents, Tweedles:

Funnier than legless lepers singing "Born to Lose"
Funnier than Jesus crucified in high heel shoes
Funnier than Adolph Hitler butt fucked by baboons
Funnier than obese babies popping like balloons.
Funnier than masturbating midget residue
Funnier than the Pope's penis being barbequed
Is the goofy sense of humor that you never lose
Even though your drunken daddy loved you like a bruise."

Gimmee that ole time religion

I'm not an overly religious guy. Not by any means.

Be that as it may, my entire personal history is deeply infused and emeshed in Christianity. I'm the son of a preacher man. I had no choice in the matter.

These days, I hold to an anuual tradition. Every Easter, I sit down and give Jesus Christ Superstar a good, hard listen. It's my way of observing. I try to make a point of listening to it on Good Friday if at all possible.

Well, I'm adding something to the list, starting this year. Now I'll also be watching Wormwood .

Cuz the Good Book is full of stories. And some of them are real wacky.

Demons Dance Alone

You can know a needle's eye
Or a hungry baby's cry
But no one knows that demons dance alone

Silver linings came and went
When I was an innocent
Never knowing demons dance alone

But somehow I was seduced
And my innocence reduced
By a demon that became my own

Knowingly I followed it
Took the hook and swallowed it
But then I found it dancing in my home

Terrified I tried to quit
But now I need the taste of shit
Like a dancing demon needs a home

I had hoped to fill my years with
More than melancholy tears
But the demon makes me dance alone

Thank you, KG for removing the mote. I got a glimpse of the demon before it was too late.

Hear Ya Got Religion

Help us, help us, help us,
Please if we could see clearly what we would decide
If there was no desperation, would we be alive?
If there were no windows that we sit inside
If there were no ugly feelings, would we be alive?
Would we be alive?

Help us, help us, help us,
Please would you make me helpless
So that I could be looking for the sight of something that I cannot see
I'd be floating in the ocean, floating in the sea
Floating in a drifting wind,
I wish that I could be floating in a liquid, nice and thick and warm
Floating where there is no pleasure and there is no harm
Life could be so pleasant, if we all could be
Helpless, hopeless creatures just marching to the sea
Would we be alive?
Helpless, hopeless

On occasion I have one of those moments of clarity. A brief second or two where my consciousness cuts through the cluttered clatter of my mind.
A bright, shiny moment when everything makes sense.
I see my purpose, both formed and unformed.
I see the pattern in everything.

And then I blink. Filters back in place, perspective returns to normal.
All is as it is because it is as it should be. Even when it isn't.
Intelligent Design? I really don't see the point of arguing about it. It doesn't really matter.
If something exists, it stands to reason that it would naturally work to perpetuate itself. Regardless of whether or not there was some being behind it.
If there is some being behind it, all the better.
Again, I don't see why it would really matter.

Then again, I didn't realize that tofu was made of soy. So consider the source.

The Eyes have it

So, I was kicking around the idea of making my very own eyeball mask. Seems there is scant info out there on doing that.
Then there's the matter of getting a tux and all.
Oh well. Halloween is approaching, and I have costumes on my mind. What to wear this year...
I was going to do a zombie, but I've been so distracted with SW and trooping, I haven't had the time to put much thought or effort into it. I did a store bought zombie last year. This time, I wanted to do something better. Perhaps next year.
Which leaves me at a loss for this year. What to wear, what to wear.

Food for thought.

Me, myself and Eye

I broke fast, then sat back and gave listen to Animal Lovers.
Holy shit.
The Residents sound sad. Weary. Now I feel weary too.
I'm reminded of why I stopped listening to NPR years ago. The world is a messed up place. People do some incredibly fucked up things.
For example, Buy or Die!

I'd have to rate this is one of their best albums ever. I'm sitting here right now, feeling the need to invest a little more heavily in making life right.
