Fuck the Vote

“The next time they give you all that civic bullshit about voting, keep in mind that Hitler was elected in a full, free democratic election”

Hitler had less than 40% of the popular vote. His rise to power was brokered in back room deals by people who weren't connected to the people of the country and his eventual dictatorship was not something the majority wanted. That said, they mostly stood idly by and gave the excuse that their one voice couldn't matter.

I don't care if you want to be an anarchist, that's your right. I'm going to vote, that's mine.

Sorry to rant, but German history hits a bit too close to home for me to let this one slide by as a good argument for avoiding the polls today.

And Bush only had 47% of the popular vote in 2000. I think that's at the heart of what Carlin was driving at. Something's way past rotten here. There are too many parallels between Hitler's rise to power and the post 9/11 US for my comfort.
I still believe every voice matters. I just don't feel the same about one vote.
